The Republican National Committee says it has sent a letter to Cobb County election officials alleging the county’s absentee ballot drop box locations violate Georgia law.
The party is asking the county’s Board of Elections and Registration to explain how it will address the alleged distribution problems and whether it is operating more drop boxes than state law allows.
At issue: In a release, the RNC alleged that Cobb’s drop boxes are concentrated in Democratic strongholds. The announcement did not identify specific locations or provide a population analysis supporting that claim.
Georgia’s Senate Bill 202 requires additional drop boxes to be geographically distributed evenly by population within a county.
What they’re saying: “Georgia law requires ballot drop boxes to be distributed fairly, not concentrated in Democrat strongholds,” RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in the announcement.
