ATLANTA (SmyrnaVinings.News) — A contract nurse at the Fulton County Jail faces a felony charge after investigators alleged she gave unauthorized prescription medication to an inmate with whom she had an undisclosed romantic relationship.
Shakimia Gabrielle Johnson, 36, was arrested Sept. 14 and charged with providing a prohibited drug to an inmate without authorization, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Her bond was set at $10,000.
What happened: Investigators said Johnson gave Caleb Sims prescription medication around Sept. 10 despite his having no active prescription or medication order for the drugs.
The sheriff’s office said Johnson admitted during an interview that she brought Sims the medication. Investigators said surveillance footage showed her entering his housing unit under the pretense of delivering patient medication and handing him items.
What investigators found: Authorities reported approximately 144 recorded telephone calls, along with social media communications, between Johnson and Sims.
Medical supervisors confirmed Sims had not been prescribed the medication and that its administration was not documented, according to the sheriff’s office.
What they’re saying: “We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any staff member or contractor who compromises the security of our facility,” Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat said.
