Former Acworth officer charged with misusing license plate reader system

(SmyrnaVinings.News) — A former police officer faces charges after investigators alleged he used Acworth’s Flock Safety license plate reader system for purposes unrelated to law enforcement.

What happened: Acworth police requested the GBI investigation. Investigators said the alleged misuse began while Trapani worked for the Acworth Police Department and continued after he transferred to the Emerson Police Department in 2025.

The GBI identified Trapani as a former Emerson officer.

What’s next: The investigation remains active. Once completed, the GBI said it will send the case file to district attorneys in Bartow and Cobb counties for prosecution.
