The owner of an outpatient mental health and chemical dependency service provider has been indicted in Fulton County on one count of Medicaid fraud and 32 counts of false statements and writings, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced.
Desmond Maul, 74, of Conyers, is the owner and operator of Family 360, an outpatient mental health and chemical dependency service provider for children, veterans, the elderly and adults. Beginning in 2018, Family 360 worked with a Georgia-licensed psychiatrist who provided services specifically to Family 360’s Medicaid members.
The psychiatrist died in 2021. Thereafter, the defendant is alleged to have continued billing Medicaid for services as if the deceased physician directly provided or supervised such services, including by affixing his name and signature to treatment notes, which occurred after his death.
As asserted in the indictment, this Medicaid fraud enabled Maul to receive over $88,000 in payments from the Georgia Medicaid program from August 2021 to September 2023.
