SMYRNA, Georgia (SmyrnaVinings.News) — Construction on Smyrna First Baptist Church’s new home on Atlanta Road began during the first week of September, with completion anticipated in early 2028.
The project’s initial phase is underway. Foundation work is expected to begin before the end of 2026.
In December 2024, the city purchased the 9-acre property of Smyrna First Baptist Church on Church Street in Downtown Smyrna for $15.8 million. It sold the church, founded about 140 years ago, a 5.5-acre parcel on Atlanta Road for $3.3 million.
What’s next: Grading and infrastructure installation will follow the initial phase, according to the construction update. Those steps will precede foundation work as the project advances toward its anticipated completion.
What they’re saying: Smyrna City Council member Tim Gould, who represents Ward 6 and serves as mayor pro tem, welcomed the start of construction and highlighted the congregation’s future in the community.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the church and its congregation as they begin construction on their new home,” City Councilman Tim Gould said in a city newsletter. “We’re looking forward to seeing their vision come to life and all the ways they will continue to grow and serve the Smyrna community in the years ahead.”
